Local Anesthesia Certification

Description:
This course meets the requirements and approval of the South Dakota State Board of Dentistry for local anesthesia certification. Participants are required to attend all three days of the course which includes lecture information and clinical practice and evaluation of each injection.

Goals and Objectives:
Upon satisfactory completion of this course, the participant will possess the skills to administer, when necessary, safe and effective local anesthesia while providing dental hygiene care that is free of discomfort to his/her patient. This will include:

A. Assessment:
     1. Securing a current health history.
     2. Evaluate need for pain control.
B. Diagnosis:
     1. Determine type of injection to be administered.
     2. Select topical anesthetic.
     3. Select local anesthetic.
     4. Select proper needle.
C. Planning:
     1. Assemble syringe.
     2. Select other armamentarium.
     3. Position patient.
D. Implementation:
     1. Administer topical anesthetic
     2. Administer local anesthetic.
     3. Dispose of needle and cartridge.
E. Evaluation:
     1. Observe patient.
     2. Determine effectiveness of local anesthesia.
     3. Seek approval of instructor.
F. Documentation:
     1. Document type of injection, side of mouth, type of topical anesthetic,
     type and amount of local anesthetic, any ADR's and comments.

Refund Policy

Lectures and Webinars:

A full refund will be given if you cancel at least one week (five working days) before the program. If you cancel less than one week prior to the program, a $50 processing fee will be deducted from your refund.

Participation/Certification Programs:

A full refund will be issued if you cancel at least one month (30 total days) before the first program session. If you cancel less than 30 days prior to the program, a late-cancellation fee of $100 will be deducted from your refund.

Home Study/On-Demand Courses:

There are no refunds for home study or online courses once you have registered. Please review the course details before making the non-refundable registration payment.
