Course Description: This professional development course introduces secondary education teachers to the intersection of ecology and molecular biology, focusing on practical applications for the classroom. Over two days, participants will explore ecological concepts and resources at The Outdoor Campus, engaging in hands-on activities such as collecting milkweed samples. Under the guidance of Dr. Carrie Manning-Olson. In the PROMISE lab at Sanford Research, they will use the collected milkweed samples to learn how molecular markers identify plant varieties and track migration patterns, linking these insights to broader ecological phenomena.

Teachers will complete the course by developing a classroom-ready lesson plan that integrates their new knowledge and outlines strategies for utilizing resources from Sanford Research and The Outdoor Campus. This course equips educators with tools to engage students in real-world science and enrich their teaching with cutting-edge ecological and molecular biology concepts.
