Course Description: Learning and Leading through Reflective Practice is the shared vision of the USD School of Education for all of its programs. The underlying intent of the vision requires that students be exposed to learning experiences that will enhance their ability to engage in life-long learning and leadership roles anchored in reflective practice.

This course introduces the Reading Recovery teacher-in-training to Reading Recovery, its theoretical foundations, purposes, and procedures. Classroom instruction is coordinated with the individual instruction of four at-risk students in an integrated field experience. Classes and fieldwork are to be in compliance with the Reading Recovery Standards and Guidelines.

Enrollment is restricted to teachers who have earned a bachelor's degree, hold a valid teaching certificate, have three years teaching experience in the primary grades (preferred), agree to complete the graduate work required for certification during the current school year, and accept and agree to the ongoing teacher training and supervision as per contract specifications for each succeeding year employed as a Reading Recovery teacher. In addition, teachers must earn a grade of ‘B’ or higher to pass this class.
Fee: $120.00
